    The candid balancer!
After you’ve obligatory discarded manual’s usual messy setup blah-blah and diagrams, time to welcome the true boons that in this machine are:

    1. Real 24-bar adjustable level on front speakers.

    2. Same freedom of input source sensitivity adjustment.

    3. No meaningless and nasal “special cinema modes” - and hence, well-controlled well-behaved DSP and generally unclustered DD/DTS decoder.

    4. Choice of 5 to 7-channel stereo which is exactly the mode to call for anyway anytime.

    5. Last not least, Denon’s audiophile grade, heavy duty transformer which only prooves the industry’s 10-year long infatuation with toroidal design a fad, to say least.

    4. Mundane bass/treble - entailing wider and natural curve unlike no naggy 7-way graphic equalizer.

    5. Mechanical switchbutton on mains PLUS standby one.

That takes care of the sheer sound quality and dismisses whatever speculation about “digital chip technology limitations” and “quantization errors” - to justify analog hi-end. In passing this Denon does credit to brands’ very singular studio presence (being confirmed pro’s N1 last year for sturdiness and service-free reliability) as well as literally bogging technicality. Luckily, the latter never cloggs the control domain - on the contrary, controls are piece of cake in use and logical as anything. User is strongly recommended to leave delays and room size alone (i.e. at minimal readings) and select all speakers as LARGE, no matter what. That’ll furnish subwoofer with CORRECT frequencies (and depress the wrong) opening up for widerange vibrant and transparent sound quality that’s immediately reminiscent of studio Denons. Speakers to select - anything receptive to the same (strongly suggest ProAc’s as most tube-tuned I ever encountered)… What’s not so good? Smallish caps in power supply which in no way justify the 80 watt per channel rating (told you to discard manual, haven’t I?). Output stage could be larger, too (were it descreete - I didn’t notice). No phono input - though no fault of Denon’s, this. Still under 12 kg net weight - as BCAC factor (Buyer’s Critical Appreciation Criteria) starts from 16 upward. 7 channels are okay for even 5-channel encoded program, but in real life it’s the width of audioband that counts - and here, the less channels we have, the wider audioband gets. Splitting everything in tiny portions will stay the ploy for industry for quite some time, and consumer should know better that playing in. Me, I gave up balancing the rear surround to center channel, and ended up leaving off RS altogether. The set understands this move well, offering number of RS mixing options. Oh, and I was forgetting: if your system’s cabling direction and mains plug phasing are correct (reverse those that are not), you’ll get fantastic quality on Audio Direct mode.

A beautiful ring for everyday wear!
I received this ring today and I was very pleased with the look, quality and price. The coloring is very close to the picture on Amazon, which is not always the case. It is currently only available in a size 10, so I do have to wear it on either my thumb or middle finger and even then it’s a bit loose. I couldn’t pass up the deal when it was offered and I’m not disappointed at all. Yet another good buy from the Amazon.com collection!

If you want some other pieces to wear with it I would suggest these:

    Sterling Silver Amethyst Hoop Earrings

    Sterling Silver Amethyst Pendant, 18″

Awesome ring to give or buy for yourself.
Gemstones are a great shade (just a tad lighter than the photo), but not by much. Ring and setting are simple, but nice.

    Beautiful ring/unbelievable price
The ring is very sparkly and beautiful. The band is sturdy and the stones are securely fastened. I couldn’t believe the price of $20 for a sterling and gemstone ring. I would have been happy with my purchase if I had paid double. The ring looks much more expensive than it is. It looks better in person then it does in the picture. A wonderful thoughtful gift for any women on your list who loves jewels, and purple.

    Good for the price
I can’t argue with the quality of this ring for the price. I feel like it is worth exactly what I paid for it. The stones seemed a lot smaller than in the picture, but that may be because I ordered the size 11, so compared to the width of the ring, the stones seemed kind of small. The stones are not as deep purple as in the picture, the ones I got are more lavender. Also, the stones are mounted a lot flatter than they look in the picture. It is still a pretty ring for the price, but it is definitely a cheaper ring.

    good … classy
This is a pretty ring with accurate sizing. However, the part that faces the palm ie the underside of hte ring has scratches after 1 week (though that part doesnt show too much). Also while the pciture shows thw stones to be darker coloured than they are. Amethysts are lighter purple and thats what the ring has.

    Of Farmers on Acid
You just had to be there…Holland, circa 1976, Akkerman and Focus were the biggest thing since tulips, windmills and a certain footballer by the name of Johan Cruijff (Kruif). I bought the record LP on the first week of its release, a 15 year old kid determined to learn new Jazzier/Swankier guitar parts. But I was unimpressed. For a start, the lyrics threw me for a loop; and Kaz’s vocals I just couldn’t digest. The guitar parts - though far removed from the Focus realm - were obviously quite out of reach for a 15 year old. In short I, and a lot of other fans were disappointed.

Two or three listening later I switched back to learning Jimmy Page lines.

Then an older friend came by one day and said I should give the record another chance. He explained that this was a “Concept Album”, and as much the brain child of Lux as Akkerman’s; a “collaboration” that needed to be looked at in a different light. He asked me if I knew what psychedelic drugs were, and I being 15, naturally I said no, being genuinely ignorant of contraband at the time.

He explained that this is an abstract imaginary “Aural Story” about a simpleton farmer who goes downtown one night and buys himself an acid trip, and suffers the consequences, as he melts his mind. A few years later when I witnessed the effects of a “Bad Trip” on an acquaintance, it all suddenly made sense.

I went back to the album with a vengeance circa 1978. I had greatly advanced in my playing, and thought “Oh…I got these parts licked now!” WRONG! Very few people can actually play at the mastery level which Ackerman achieved during this time, and while true, true, he is seriously “underplaying” on this album, the precise articulation simply still remains, even to this day, just out of reach.

Over the ensuing years I developed a love/hate relationship with the record. Repeat close listening brought out the most subtle nuances in both the playing AND the singing that are truly timeless and nothing short of Art. I discerned and recognized melodic content, grooves, and sheer little touches of musical and performance brilliance that have imprinted this record permanently on my heart, and on the hearts of countless European musicians of the past generation.

Now, about 30 years later, this quirky strange album has become as an old friend who wanders off for years at a time, only to think of him one day and find his face peering through your window.

This is a record for such old time Akkerman fans. If you were born anytime after 1978, your chances of appreciating this are remote, as it will sound dated, confused, dry, and at times even corny. If you are a collector of Akkerman music, it obviously belongs in your collection. But if like Eli, you are a simple unsuspecting soul that one day ventures downtown to open your mind and musical heart, beware…you just might get it, and it will never ever leave you.

    awesome guitar
heard this album 25 years ago and still love it. i had never heard such unusual guitaring. a classic!

    Ouch!!
I’m a huge Akkerman fan and a fan of his 70’s instrumental band, Focus. He’s an awesome guitarist, but this mess is certainly a CD that should be ignored. I don’t understand how any Akkerman fan could recommend this. Jan is a guitar instrumentalist, but Akkerman’s guitar licks are overwhelmed by the horrible vocals of Kaz Lux. I’d love to hear some of the instrumental portions of the music. I don’t recommend this to fans and I especially don’t recommend it to anyone looking to buy their very first Akkerman CD. A first Akkerman CD should be Heartware, Can’t Stand the Noise, Focus in Time, or Passion. Don’t waste your cash on this disaster.

    jan akkerman & kaz lux
I’ve always been a loyal Focus fan and still play their greatest hits! Kaz Lux & Jan Akkerman are superb from the start of 1.Ili to the last composition ix.Fairytale. All compositions are mastery written. This particular album has a great balance to it. Seriously recommend!

    Hidden treasure
This recording by Jan Akkerman is a favorite of mine leftover from 8-track days. The guitar playing is clean and jazzy, and the rhythm is tight.

The CD quality of this import is surely better than the old 8-track, but not perfect, and in one cut, the music skips, as if the CD were made from an LP.

Review of Ain’t Gonna Reign No More
Jon Braun does an excellent job of explaining and illustrating the orthodox faith’s understanding of the Trinity, Incarnation, and deification/sanctification. He makes the practical implications for our Christian life understandable. Great explanation of the Creedal faith.
